Planting Plan

A planting plan is a detailed design that brings structure, texture, and year-round interest to your garden. It shows exactly which plants, trees, and shrubs will thrive in your space, where they’ll be placed, and how they’ll work together to create harmony and balance. Each plan is tailored to your style, soil, and the time you have to care for your garden.

Right plant, right place

Without a plan, it’s easy to waste time and money on plants that don’t thrive. A good planting plan makes sure everything is right from the start — the right plants, in the right place, growing beautifully together, making the most of each of the seasons.

Phase 1 of 2  — Mood & Tone

Planting Moodboards

We learn what types of planting you are drawn to, and balance this with the sites aspect, varying border types and positions, along with soil conditions. We can then produce a series of moodboards that show you the suggested plant pairings for colour, seasonal interest, and evergreen-structure.

Once happy and any revisions have been made, we can move onto the next phase, creating the precise plan for position and layouts.

Phase 2 of 2  —  Layout & Care

Layout & Quantities

Once we have agreed on the mood and tone, a detailed plan containing exact positions of plants based on their mature sizes will be created. This allows us to make sure the exact quantity can be costed out and purchased against budgets, and planting days become a smooth experience with everything planned ahead with fewer suprises.

Plant List & Care Guide

Once plants are in the ground, they can be cared for by you, or with our ongoing additional services for maintenance if you aren't too far away. Gardens of course grow and are never static, so its helpful to understand your plan and know what it requires throughout the seasons. We can do lower maintenance schemes, or really dynamic ones too, but every plan will have a detailed list of the plants you have, their positions, and how you need to care for them throughout the seasons.

What about the physical planting?

If you want a professional expert to source and do the planting, I offer that service too for Small to Medium sized gardens. And if you like, it can be a great opportunity to learn with me and better understand your new gardens needs to help it thrive.

Hands-on Planting (by me!)

Planting is one of my favourite aspects of this job, and why I got into garden design in the first place. It's fuel for the soul and incredibly satisfying and uplifting. So to support this passion, I can offer a fully hands-on planting service with myself doing the layout and labour, priced at a day rate, typically for small to medium sized gardens.

Typically construction quotes will revolve around the hard-landscaping only, so having a plant specialist come in to plant at the right time can work well. It's also a fantastic opportunity for us to work together where I can help educate you on the plants in your scheme along with their care if you wish.

"The glory of gardening: hands in the dirt, head in the sun, heart with nature."
